Atelier Tahaddi Shines at Local Fairs

Atelier Tahaddi Shines at Local Fairs

September 12, 2024

Atelier Tahaddi has been actively participating in several fairs this year, including The American University of Beirut (AUB) Spring 2024 Fair, The Spring Market at the German Church, the 2024 International Food Festival by the Diplomatic Spouses’ Association of Lebanon, and the Monot Street Festival. Each of these events provided a unique platform for the Atelier to present its latest handmade creations alongside its classic offerings, reflecting the seamstresses’ dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

This year also marked the first time Atelier Tahaddi introduced woodwork into its fair participation, notably featuring a multi-colored stool created by Hassan, an ex-Tahaddi student and now a co-trainer in Tahaddi’s carpentry vocational training program. The stool, with its intricate design and blend of different wood types, quickly became a highlight of the displays. Many attendees were drawn to its uniqueness and the craftsmanship behind it. “People were fascinated by how the different wood colors complemented each other,” shared Hassan. “It was encouraging to see my work so well-received.” The success of the stool not only showcased Hassan’s talent but also highlighted the growing scope of skills being developed at Tahaddi.

These fairs have been among the most significant that Atelier Tahaddi has attended, both in terms of size and engagement. The wide variety of attendees, from local community members to international visitors, offered valuable exposure for the Atelier. Many attendees expressed appreciation for the intricate designs, attention to detail, and the authenticity of the products. “I was impressed by the quality of the embroidery and the unique styles that blend traditional and contemporary elements,” shared one visitor at the AUB Fair. This positive feedback translated into encouraging sales across all events, indicating a growing interest in the work produced by the talented seamstresses of Atelier Tahaddi.

Beyond sales, these fairs have been important learning experiences for the team. For many of the seamstresses, it was a chance to step out of their usual roles and engage directly with customers. By assisting the atelier manager with sales and customer interactions, they gained hands-on experience that is vital for their professional growth. “It was my first time explaining our work to customers,” said Amina, a seamstress at Atelier Tahaddi. “I was nervous at first, but with each conversation, I felt more confident. It was a good opportunity to learn how to connect with people and share the story behind our products.”

Participating in multiple fairs has also highlighted the importance of adapting to different audiences and market dynamics. Each event brought its unique set of challenges, from setting up displays to handling diverse customer inquiries. The team’s ability to adapt and learn on the go was crucial. “We learned a lot about what appeals to different people, how to present our items, and even how to manage our time better during busy periods,” mentioned Rita, the atelier manager. This experience has not only strengthened our sales skills but also fostered a sense of teamwork and resilience among us.

Looking forward, Atelier Tahaddi is committed to continuing its participation in local fairs as a way to promote its seamstresses’ work and to support their ongoing professional development. The positive reception and the valuable lessons learned from this year’s fairs have motivated the team to keep evolving and exploring new ways to connect with their supporters.
