Introducing the Diabetes Clinic
September 11, 2024
Many diabetic patients in the community struggle to properly manage their illness. Purchasing and taking their medications, undergoing regular lab tests, and visiting their doctors can often become overwhelming amidst the other concerns about their livelihood and other emergencies. As a result, diabetes management often falls low on their list of priorities, leading to severe complications such as blindness, kidney failure, amputation, or worse. Typically, these patients seek care at the Tahaddi Health Center (THC) only for acute complaints, rather than focusing on their diabetes.
To address this, the THC team has initiated ‘The Diabetes Clinic’.
This clinic operates within Tahaddi’s Health Center and focuses on providing essential services such as blood sugar monitoring, medication guidance, and basic dietary advice. The clinic is staffed by a committed team of healthcare professionals, including nurses and a doctor who is available on specific days to consult with patients. While the resources are limited, the team strives to educate patients on the importance of regular monitoring and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. “Many of our patients were not aware of how critical it is to monitor their blood sugar levels daily,” explains a nurse at the clinic. “We provide them with the knowledge and tools to take better control of their health.”
The clinic has also become a place of support where patients feel understood and cared for. Many of them face not only the physical burdens of managing diabetes but also emotional stress and stigma. By offering a compassionate environment, the clinic provides more than just medical care; it offers a sense of community. One patient shared, “Coming here makes me feel less alone. The staff understand our struggles and are always here to listen.”
